Relationship between Radiation Quality and Image Quality in Digital Chest Radiography: Validation Study Using Human Soft Tissue-equivalent Phantom

Purpose: To evaluate image quality for chest radiography at different radiation qualities, using phantoms with scatter fractions similar to those of lungs. Methods: Two base 10 and 4 cm thicknesses, respectively, made a soft tissue-equivalent material, were used mimic the X-ray attenuation human lung. plates tissue- bone-equivalent materials, placed on phantom as contrast objects. The data obtained same entrance surface dose in each quality. Six qualities generated 120 90 kV, additional copper filters thicknesses 0, 0.1, 0.2 mm selected. signal-difference-to-noise ratio (SdNR) tissue bone measured six qualities. Results: thicker filter, better SdNR both tube voltages. values not significantly between kV filter thickness. was higher than by approximately 8%. Conclusions: Because advantage highest SdNR, 0.2-mm filtration best. It indicated that conventional voltage remains be lower kV.
